Combining their academic background in culinary arts, anthropology, nonprofit management, public health, and nutrition, Patrilie leverages their lived experience as a fat, multiracial, neuroatypical, queer femme of the Puerto Rican diaspora to disrupt the status quo of current health and wellness spaces and advocate for a paradigm that is weight inclusive and includes other social determinants of health that influence individual and community wellbeing. Katherine Flegal, Ph.D Katherine Flegal (she, her) has a bachelor’s degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics from UC Berkeley, a PhD in Human Nutrition from Cornell University, and an MPH degree in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh. After a long career at CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, where she published more than 180 articles, she retired and joined the Stanford Prevention Research Center as an unpaid associate. Much of her work has involved issues related to anthropometry (body measurements) and methodological issues, many critical of the predominant paradigms in body weight and health. Her research has sometimes been controversial, and her work has been called “rubbish” and “ludicrous” by some professors from the Harvard School of Public Health and their allies. Joy Cox, Ph.D Dr. Joy Cox received her Ph.D. in Communication from Rutgers University in 2018 with an emphasis on organizational communication and its impact on marginalized groups. As a social justice advocate, she uses her skill set in research and leadership to foster social change through the promotion of REAL diversity and inclusion initiatives. Much of Dr. Cox’s work has focused on matters of intersectionality addressing race, body size, accessibility, and "health" within the context of body acceptance and fat liberation. In addition to research, Dr. Cox previously hosted the 'Fresh Out the Cocoon' podcast which showcases the lived experiences of fat Black womxn and femmes. She is also the co-founder of 'Jabbie,' an identity-inclusive, body affirming app that encourages people to move their bodies in their own way. And in 2020, published her first book, 'Fat Girls in Black Bodies.' Lisa Marie Alatorre Lisa Marie Alatorre (she/her) is a community organizer, educator, and writer with over 20 years experience fighting for the abolition of imprisonment, policing, and oppression as a response to social problems and instead shifting towards care, healing, and transformation. She is a fat queer femme of Indigenous, Mexican, and Jewish descent. Born and raised in Peoria, Arizona, she is currently based out of rural Washington state with her partner, toddler, and their crew of pets. She currently works as a part-time lecturer with the Crime and Justice Studies department at UMass Dartmouth. She also works as a consultant and has worked with many different organizations and institutions around the United States that span the many sectors of our radical movements to end oppression and violence. Whitney Trotter, RDN/LDN RN, RYT PMHNP (2024) (@Bluff City Health) Whitney Trotter (she/her) is dually licensed as a Registered Dietitian, Nurse, and yoga instructor. Whitney has over ten years of experience working as a registered dietitian serving the HIV/AIDS community as well as working in the eating disorder field. Whitney also previously worked at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma center as a Pediatric emergency room nurse. In addition to working as a RDN and RN Whitney has served as a member of her county's Rape Crisis Center. Her work at the Rape Crisis Center equipped her to co-found an anti-trafficking organization Restore Corps, where she now provides medical training to the community focusing on human trafficking response. Whitney is also the owner/founder of Bluff City Health, a private practice specializing in bridging the gap in the eating disorder field of equitable care and social justice.
