Marti Hearst: New Inventions
In her talk on Information Technology interfaces, Marti Hearst will discuss the creative process of finding meaning in data, and sharing that meaning with larger audiences. She will cover topics from search engines to computational linguistics and data visualization, always with a mind for how information can be a powerful mirror to see new things we want to see, but also to see new things we might not want to see but must see nevertheless in order to prosper.

Marti Hearst is a Professor of Information at the School of Information at UC Berkeley. Her extensive publications include Search User Interfaces, the first book on the process, cultures and aesthetics of search engines.
